Northwest High School has been my home since 2006. I have lived in Jackson all of my life, attended and graduated from Jackson Public Schools (Parkside High School). My education includes being a graduate of Jackson Community College (Associate of Arts), Spring Arbor University (Bachelor of Arts/Special Education) and Eastern Michigan University (Master of Arts/Curriculum and Instruction). I am married to Michael and we have two daughters, one, Amy, is married to Greg, (She is the director of the Northwest Pre-School/Daycare Center, and my other daughter Laura, is married to Brandon, I have three granddaughters, Ellery who is 5 years old, her sister Hadley is 4 months old and their cousin Olivia is 2 months old. My hobbies are, playing clarinet in the Jackson Community Concert Band ,reading, cake decorating, and listening to music.
I teach and co-teach in the science department . This year my co-teaching will be in Conceptual Physics and Biology. I also teach my own resource classes and this year my classes will be HS Physics A and B, HS Chemistry, and CSS/DS classes. . My classes rotate each year between physics (2 terms) and biology (2 terms). I follow the regular education teachers (their pacing guides) and the benchmarks in those same subjects that I offer to my students, with the goal of having those students who are to take SAT, ready and knowledgeable in the science area of the test. I also am very fortunate to be able to offer electives and this year, my resource elective is chemistry, where we will focus on the periodic table of elements, density, chemical reactions, and viscosity.
I am one of the organizers of the Northwest High School Prom Closet. We have more than one hundred prom dresses for Northwest High School students who would like to borrow a beautiful prom dress instead of having to go out and purchase one. Through the generosity of many individuals from the Northwest community and beyond, the goal of having dresses of many sizes has become a reality and the prom closet has proven to be a successful offering for our students.
I am one of the the Twelve grade class advisors (class of 2017) and will be working with the seniors for homecoming, snow fest and of course graduation next June.
Working with students that need home bound services from the high school is a wonderful opportunity. This will be my seventh year of working and meeting students needs through home bound services.
